ROSWELL, Ga. –Rising Jaguar sophomore Jessica Haigwood, the 2014 GRU Augusta Female Freshman of the Year, just won the 2014 Judson Collegiate & Legends Pro-Am Challenge by 10 strokes on Monday, June 30th, after she shot a second-round 66 to tie the tournament record at the Country Club of Roswell in Roswell, Ga.
An invitation only three-day event, the Judson is an individual stroke play competition that ran from June 28-30th in Roswell. The event features 60 top-collegiate players who compete against one another, but the first round is played alongside a Legends player; offering a unique shadowing experience for the collegiate golfers to learn from some of the veterans in the sport.
Jessica Haigwood was tied for second place overall after her first round where she sat even par, five strokes out of the lead. Central Arkansas' Sarah Brown shot a 66 after her first outing, a new Judson tournament record, and took control of the field by five strokes. On Sunday during the second outing of 18 holes, Haigwood cut the deficit by carding birdies on three of her first six holes. Four more birdies, including back-to-back on No. 14 and 15 and on the par-five 18, gave Haigwood a five-stroke lead over the field heading into the last day.
A solid 69 in her third and final round on Monday kept Haigwood atop the leaderboard by 10 strokes where she took the win with an overall 206 (-7). With six birdies and only four bogies in round three, Haigwood secured a well-earned victory to open up the month of July.
