January 16th, 2021

AMERICUS, GA   – The #10 Augusta Jaguars lost by a single point (67-66) to Georgia Southwestern  on Saturday night in Peach Belt Conference play.  The Jaguars are now 3-2 on the season, 1-2 in PBC play while the Hurricanes move to 5-1, 3-1 in PBC play.

Augusta entered the game with a limited roster of 8 and were tasked with playing without the likes of guards Miguel Arnold and Troy Cracknell, among others. Even after learning that five players would not suit up in the contest, the Jaguars were able to push a talented Georgia Southwestern team to its limit.

Sophomore Lee Flenor continues the hot start to the season, going 8-for-14 from the field with 20 total points and 9 rebounds. Darren Lucas-White added 15 points and 8 rebounds. Tyshaun Crawford finished with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Of note, senior Shawn Moss made his return under a limited minutes restrictions. Moss hit three 3-pointers for his 9 points in the contest.

Augusta native Kahlon Whitley led the way for GSW with 24 points behind 5 of 9 shooting from beyond the arc

The Hurricanes turned in their best shooting effort of the season from 3-point range, shooting 10 of 27 (37 percent). Augusta clearly won the rebounding battle 47-35.  After being down 25-28 at half, the Jaguars were able to take an eventual 47-46 lead with 10:45 left in the second half. The contest remained tight throughout, with neither team showing a clear advantage. A made three pointer by Tyree Myers with 4 seconds on the clock brought the Jaguars within one, but the team would eventually fall 66-67

The Jaguars are back in action this Monday the 18th when they travel to Columbus, GA for 6:00 pm PBC Conference match-up. The MLK day contest is a make-up game that was initially supposed to be played January 6th. All games can be viewed on the PBC Sports Network.
