Jaguars Host Inaugural Legends Game With Basketball Alumni

Current 2015-16 Jags fall 92-82 to former alumni in exhibition game

AUGUSTA, Ga. – On Saturday, Nov. 14 Augusta University Athletics hosted the inaugural Legends Game where the 2015-16 men's basketball squad squared off against Jaguar Basketball alumni for a friendly exhibition game in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

"The difference between having a basketball team and a basketball program is having the ability to impact a university as well as a city, "Augusta University men's basketball Head Coach Dip Metress said. These former players are the reason we have a basketball program at our school. I owe a lot to these former players and once a Jaguar always a Jaguar."

The Legends took the day 92-82. Over 50 former Jaguar Basketball alumni attended the Legends Game. The alumni owned the first half 46-39 and had 25 points in the paint to the Jaguars' eight. Former All-American Garret Siler made his return to Christenberry and produced 14 first-half points. Siler ended the afternoon with a team-high 14 points.

For the Legends, Siler had 14 points and six rebounds, Karim Reamo Telfer posted 13 points, Harold Doby chipped in 11 and Devon Wright-Nelson provided 10. The Legends shot 45.5 percent from the floor to the Jaguars' 49.1, but the alumni made 24-of-28 free throws and the Jags were 11-14.

Pacing Augusta was sophomore Keshun Sherrill who had 30 points. Freshman Ja'Shawn Brooks scored 12, senior Tommy Williams had 11 and freshman Aaron Byrd notched 10. Augusta made nine from behind the arc, but were outrebounded 41-28.

Men's hoops plays at Clafin University in Orangeburg, S.C., on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 8:00 p.m. to kick off the season. The 2015-16 home opener is Saturday, Nov. 21 when the Jaguars host Paine College for a women's game at 5:30 p.m. and a men's game at 7:30 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

WJBF News Channel 6 will televise the Augusta vs. Paine men's game across the CSRA and stream it live online.
