Athletics To Celebrate 25 Years Of Christenberry Fieldhouse

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Jaguar Athletics is proud to announce that Spring 2016 will mark the 25th Anniversary of Christenberry Fieldhouse after it was unveiled in 1991. The CFH celebration of 25 years will be held during Homecoming week Feb. 7-13 and will culminate at the Jaguar homecoming basketball games vs. USC Aiken on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Christenberry Fieldhouse is located at 3109 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, Ga., 30909. All year long the Jaguars will be using the hashtag #CFH25 to help promote the initiative. A special 25th anniversary event will be held at the J. Fleming Norvell Golf House on Friday, Feb.12 prior to the homecoming games and a tailgate will be hosted outside of CFH the day of the game.

All Augusta College, Augusta State University, Medical College of Georgia, Georgia Health Sciences University, and Georgia Regents University alumni are encouraged to attend the event. All alumni please email or call 706-737-1759 and provide your contact information to receive important updates on #CFH25 and Homecoming 2016.

On Tuesday, Jan. 29, 1991, the Jaguars christened the floor of Christenberry Fieldhouse and kicked off a historic run for the gymnasium. Still playing as Augusta College, the Jaguar women's basketball team defeated UNC-Asheville 97-84 for the first game on the CFH floor and the men followed it up with a 76-62 hard-fought loss to the University of South Carolina in front of a standing-room only crowd of 3,414 fans.

CFH, which opened in 1991, is home to the Jaguar and the women's and men's basketball programs. It houses offices for 11 of the Jags' 13 sports. All administrative and support staff personnel for the Department of Athletics, as well as the College of Education's Health & Kinesiology department, are also based in the CFH.

The CFH gym floor has seen numerous redesigns and renovations throughout the years. In July 2013, Praters Incorporated of Chattanooga, Tenn., was contracted to sand the entire arena floor to bare wood before having it cleaned, stained, repainted and then stained again in preparation for a redesign of the 3,026 seat-arena.
