West Georgia Takes Two From ASU

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State rallied twice in game two to tie the game, but fell in the eleventh off a West Georgia single to left-center field. The Wolves took both games on Sunday afternoon 7-3, 4-3, after the Jags won the single affair on Saturday.

In the first inning of game two, sophomore Taylor Camp doubled and freshman Hunter Boose traded places with him two batters later for a 1-0 lead in the first.

ASU was ahead until the sixth when UWG senior Dylan Coleman squared to bunt, but slashed hit a single up the middle to tie the game 1-1. Senor Evan Hester hit a sacrifice fly to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead.

Boose lined a single over the shortstop to start the seventh, and advanced to second on a wild pitch two batters later. Junior Kevin Dodson took the game to extra innings, when he singled to plate Boose for a 2-2 tie.

ASU starter Josh Barks went 6.0 innings and gave up three hits for two earned runs, before he was relieved by freshman David Bermudez in the seventh.

Tied 3-3 through the tenth, reliever Curtis Parker came in the eleventh and struck out the first batter he faced. A single and error from the ASU infield, led to an RBI single for a 4-3 final score.

UWG starting pitcher Jamie Sexton went 7.0 innings and struck out 11. Randall Wright (2-0) got the win when he pitched in the tenth and eleventh.

ASU junior hurler Clint Echols (0-1) went 4.1 innings in game one to give up eight hits for six runs (three earned) and struck out five. West Georgia lefty starter Jonathan Black (1-0) went 8.1 innings in the win, allowing seven hits, three runs and striking out seven.

West Georgia's Hester singled in the first inning that plated Jake Shirley for a 1-0 lead. In the fourth with two outs, a walk and single put two runners on for UWG and a bobbled groundball from ASU scored an unearned run from second base. Echols hit the next batter and gave up a single down the left-field line for a 4-0 UWG advantage.

UWG added two more in the fifth off an RBI single to right field from junior Keith Borger. ASU senior righty Dylan Wall relieved Echols in the fifth to get out of the inning with a fly ball to left field.

ASU broke open the shutout in the bottom of the ninth when junior Nate Crown walked and Boose singled, before senior Seth Foster lined a single to left field that scored Crown. An error from the UWG catcher advanced runners to second and third and Camp's pinch-hit two-run double cleared the bases. The Wolves struck out the final batter to take a 7-3 win in game one.

Boose went 5-for-8 on the day with an RBI, while Camp went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Dodson 2-for-5 with an RBI.

The Jags host a single game against Erskine on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at LOS for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
