Weathers and Hammesfahr Pick up PBC Honors at Awards Banquet

Augusta, Ga. – Augusta University Cross Country standouts Micah Weathers and Rachel Hammesfahr earned prestigious awards at the awards reception on Friday night in Pembroke, N.C., before the PBC Cross Country Championships. Weathers was named the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year while Hammesfahr was awarded the Elite 15 Award.

Hammesfahr, a Sr. Biology major from Richmond Hill, Ga., picked up this prestigious award for being the student athlete with the highest overall cumulative GPA competing at the championships. Modeled after the NCAA Elite 90, the Elite 15 Award is given at each of the 15 PBC championships.  Ties are broken by giving the honor to the student-athlete with the most credit hours earned.

Weathers, a Jr. from Statham, Ga., enters the PBC Championship on Saturday holding the fastest 6k, 5k and 4k times in the PBC this season.  A junior from Statham, Ga., won the 39-team, 316-runner Queen City Invitational in September with a 5k time of 18:01.  She was second at the Wingate Bulldog Stampede with a 6k time of 22:07.6 on the course that will host this year's NCAA Southeast Regional.  A two-time PBC Runner of the Week, she has been an All-Conference performer for the last two seasons and was the 2017 PBC Freshman of the Year.  She becomes the first Jaguar to ever be named the women's Runner of the Year.

Both the Men's and Women's teams compete tomorrow in the Peach Belt Championships. For updates be sure to check back with www.augustajags.com.
