Jags Cross Country Announces 2019 Schedule

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's and women's cross country teams released their 2019 schedule that features five total meets, including the Peach Belt Conference Championships and the NCAA Southeast Regional.

Head coach Adam Ward, who was named the 2018 NCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year and is an eight time PBC Coach of the Year, is ready for another season entering his 16th year at the helm of the Jaguars.

 

"This year we have simplified our schedule and will focus primarily on our training and preparing for the post season competitions," Ward said. "Both the men and women will make a push for conference championships and qualifying automatically at regionals to go to Sacramento for the national championships. We had a great year in recruiting and the addition of some top notch transfers will help both squads tremendously."

 

Augusta kicks things off by heading to Misenheimer, N.C. on August 30, to compete in the Pfeiffer Duals, hosted by Pfeiffer University. The men's team will run an 8K and the women's team a 5K. The Jags travel back to North Carolina on September 21 to race in the Bulldog Stampede, hosted by Wingate University, where the teams will get a glimpse at the regional course. The men will run an 8K and the women a 6K.

 

Another trip to North Carolina sees the Jaguars compete in the Queen City Invitational on September 27. Hosted by Queens University, the meet features a men's 8K and the women's 5K.

 

The next event is the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championships slated for Saturday, October 26, hosted by UNC Pembroke in Pembroke, N.C. The conference championships see the men run an 8L and the women a 5K.

 

The NCAA Southeast Regional is on Saturday, November 9, hosted by Wingate, in Wingate. N.C., where the men will run a 10K and the women a 6K. The NCAA National Championships will be held in Sacramento, Calif., on

 

The men's cross country team had a historic season last year, competing in the NCAA Championships for just the third time in school history. Leading up to the championships, the Jaguars were ranked No. 25 nationally, and finished third or better all season, including two wins, a runner-up finish at the PBC Championships, and third place at regionals. AU had four earn All-Region and All-Conference honors, including returners Chandler Kennedy, Hunter Kimball, and Jacob Poston.

 

The women's squad was ranked No. 10 in the NCAA Southeast Region last season and recorded three top-five finishes, while finishing top 10 all season. The Jaguars placed fifth at the conference championships last year and had two named All-Conference and one All-Region.
