Jags WXC Fifth At Peach Belt Championships

BEECH ISLAND, S.C. – Augusta University hosted the Peach Belt Conference Championship on Saturday morning at Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site. The Jaguars placed fifth as a team and sophomore Micah Weathers led the squad in fifth individually.

 

 

Flagler won the team title with 46 points and took home the individual title as senior Heloise Duffie de Tassigny won the 5K in 18:18.4. North Georgia finished second as a team with 60 points, Columbus State took third (70), Georgia College fourth (95), Augusta fifth (96), UNC Pembroke sixth (165), Clayton State seventh (196), Georgia Southwestern eighth (254), Francis Marion ninth (265), and Lander 10th (296).

 

Seated 10th in the NCAA Southeast Region, Augusta's women's squad has been seventh or better so far this year, with a third-place showing at the Jaguar XC Invitational being the best mark so far. The Jags were led by Weathers at the PBC finals in 18:41.8, while junior McKenzie Knudsen carded a top-10 finish in eighth place (18:57.5). 

 

AU sophomore Miranda Taylor crossed the line in 19:30.1 to take 22nd, Lara Way returned to the course to take 24th in 19:34.8, junior Sinead O'Bryant in 20:32.8 for 43rd, freshman Madison Congdon in 20:39.3 for 46th, Helen Rendich in 20:59.8 for 52nd, and Rachel Hammesfahr in 21:15.3 for 55th place.

 

McKenzie Knudsen and Micah Weathers earned Peach Belt All-Conference status on Saturday morning for placing in the top 15. 

 

The NCAA Southeast Regionals take place on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Gainesville, Ga. hosted by the University of North Georgia.
