BEECH ISLAND, S.C. – The Augusta University women's cross country team hosted the 2018 Jaguar Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning at Redcliffe Plantation. Augusta took third place in the team standings, while AU sophomore Micah Weathers won the individual title for the second straight season.

Ranked sixth in the NCAA Southeast Region and voted second in the Peach Belt Conference preseason poll, the Jaguars finished third in the race. North Georgia won the race, while Georgia College took second, AU third, Clayton State fourth, Albany State fifth, Georgia Southwestern sixth, Francis Marion seventh, USC Beaufort eighth, Agnes Scott ninth, and Paine 10th.

The women placed third as a team but claimed the individual champion, as sophomore Micah Weathers finished in 18:29, over a minute ahead of the second place finisher. Competition on the women's side was tight, with second place Georgia College just beating Augusta by five points with a one second faster average pace overall.

The rivalry between the Bobcats and the Jaguars will no doubt continue as the season progresses and the claws sharpen. AU junior McKenzie Knudsen finished second for the team at sixth place overall with Helen Rendich, Sinead O'Bryant, and Miranda Taylor closing out the top five of the team - placing within the top 32 finishers.

AU heads to the North Georgia Invitational Sept. 29 in Gainesville, Ga., to get a preview of the regional course.
