Augusta Hosts 2018 Jaguar XC Invitational Sept. 22

BEECH ISLAND, S.C. – The Augusta University women's and men's cross country teams host the 2018 Jaguar Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site.

 

The event was originally scheduled a week earlier, but had to shift dates to avoid Hurricane Florence. 

 

The men will run an 8K at 8:10 a.m. followed by the women's 5K at 8:50 a.m. An awards ceremony will take place following the races where the top-three teams and top-12 individuals will be recognized. The event is $5.00 general admission and children six and under are free.

 

The men's 8K will feature Augusta, Albany State, Clayton State, Columbus State, Flagler, Francis Marion, Georgia College, Lander, Paine, UNC Pembroke, and USC Beaufort.

 

The women's 5K will feature Augusta, Albany State, Clayton State, Columbus State, Flagler, Francis Marion, Georgia College, Georgia Southwestern, Lander, North Georgia, Paine, UNC Pembroke, and Wesleyan.

 

The course is mostly grass and dirt with minor rolling terrain throughout course. It will consist of approximately two and 1/4 loops for women and three and 1/2 loops for men. One full outer loop of the course is approximately 2100 meters. The race will serve as a preview race for the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Championships, which AU also hosts at Redcliffe Plantation on Nov. 3.

 

The Augusta men were picked to finish first in the Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches poll, while the women were voted to place runnerup. The men sit third in the NCAA Southeast Region preseason rankings and the women are sixth.
