Jags Picked To Finish Second In PBC Women’s XC Preseason Poll

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's cross country was voted to finish second in the 2018 Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches poll that was released Wednesday morning.

 

Following their first PBC Championship in program history, the North Georgia women's cross country team has been voted the 2018 preseason favorite in a poll of the league's head coaches. The Nighthawks received seven first-place votes and finished with 79 points in the poll, six ahead of second-place Augusta. Flagler was third in the voting with Georgia College fourth and UNC Pembroke fifth. Columbus State, Clayton State, Georgia Southwestern, Francis Marion and Lander rounded out the voting.

 

Augusta was 10 points behind UNG in the 2017 PBC Championships and finished sixth at the NCAA Regional. The Jaguars return two All-Conference performers from last year with junior McKenzie Knudsen and 2017 PBC Freshman of the Year Micah Weathers. AU signed three new athletes as well for the new slate.

 

The 2018 season officially begins Friday, Aug. 31, with six teams in action. The Jaguars start their slate on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted the University of Georgia, in Athens, Ga.

 

The coaches poll is listed below with first-place votes in parentheses. Coaches were not permitted to rank their own teams.
