AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's cross country team repeated at their home event and won the 2017 Jaguar Cross Country Invitational on the Flowing Wells Campus of the Episcopal Day School. Augusta hosted a women's 5K with six teams and the Jaguars placed seven runners in the top 10. Augusta freshman Micah Weathers won the individual title.

Augusta won the 2016 edition of the Jaguar XC Invitational and did the same this year with the race back at EDS for the second-consecutive season. The event was originally scheduled with nine teams, but a few pulled out due to the threat of Hurricane Irma.

Augusta took home the team title, while Clayton State carded second, Piedmont third, Albany State fourth, and Paine fifth.

Weathers willed the Jags with a first-place showing in 18:58.07. It was the second-straight meet where Weathers led the team. Junior teammate Lara Way took second overall in 19:30.09 after winning the 2016 edition of the race for AU.

Sophomore McKenzie Knudsen set a new personal record for the 5K with a time of 19:55.8 to place fourth for Augusta and senior Diana Petrmichlova finished next in sixth place with a finish time of 20:26.20.

The Jags took seventh, eighth and ninth overall as well, with senior Amber Palermo taking seventh (20:31.50), freshman Miranda Taylor eighth (20:42.47), and senior Olivia Rodriguez ninth (20:42.65). Sophomores Sinead O'Bryant and Rachel Hammesfahr rounded out Augusta in the event. O'Bryant booked 18th (21:25.32) and Hammesfahr 23rd (21:47.75).
