NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Augusta University women's cross country team is ranked sixth for the southeast region in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason rankings that were released on Tuesday afternoon.
The USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
The Augusta Jaguars finished the 2016 NCAA Southeast Region in seventh place and were most recently voted second in the Peach Belt Conference preseason poll. Augusta joins North Georgia, Flagler, UNC Pembroke, and Georgia College as five PBC teams to make the USTFCCCA preseason ranks.
The Jags open the season on Friday, Sept. 1 at the Eye Opener Invitational, hosted by USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C.
