Nagel Inks With Jaguars

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State women's cross country head coach Adam Ward announced Monday the signing of Jacquelyn Nagel to a national letter-of-intent. She will join the Jaguar cross country program beginning with the Fall, 2011 semester.

"Jacquelyn will be a great addition to our program," Ward said. "She has a very solid training background, yet she still has a lot of potential and room to grow as a runner. I think she will make an immediate impact on our team, in our conference and the region."

Nagel, from Aurora, Ill., was named team MVP in 2010 and co-MVP in 2008 and has been a three-time team captain for West Aurora (Ill.) High School. She has posted personal records of 18:54.3 in the three-mile and 2:28 in the 800 meters.

A varsity scholar-athlete in 2009 and 2010, Nagel was a three-time All-Academic team member in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Nagel is the second signee for the Jaguars, joining Jessica Carpenter who inked with the program on March 28. Nagel's older sister Jamie is also a member of the Jags' squad.

Ward led the Lady Jaguars to a runnerup finish in the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Championships and to a fourth-place showing in the NCAA Southeast Regional in Charlotte, N.C.
