Keeper Wins, Sets School Record

MARTINEZ, Ga. -- Augusta State topped Georgia College and UNC Pembroke and the Jaguar men's squad was third Saturday in the ASU Tri-Meet at the canal near Savannah Rapids Pavillion.

In the 5K women's race, ASU sophomore Holly Keeper set a new school record and finished first with a time of 18:20.9. Keeper's effort was nearly a half-minute faster than teammate Claudia Nunez-Lopez, who was second at 18:46.7.

The Lady Jaguars' Lyndsey Nichols finished seventh at 19:22.5 and Alicia Connolly gave ASU four top-10 finishes with her time of 19:41.3. Angela Woodward (19:42.7), Ivori Sneed (19:57.0), Savannah Sutton (19:57.9), Celia Kresser (19:57.9) and Camille Jackson (20:16.4) finished 11th through 15th, respectively.

Other ASU participants were Jamie Nagel (20.38.1) and Lyndsay Barber (20:40.9), who were 20th and 21st. Marybeth Sardinia (25th) posted a time of 21:03.3 while Blaire Robillard (21:48.8) and Lindsey Cope (23:41.3_ were 29th and 30th.

"I was very pleased with our efforts today," said ASU head coach Adam Ward. "We had eight women run under 20 minutes and it was great weather and obviously a fast course."

In the men's 8K event, UNC Pembroke outpointed Georgia College and ASU for the win. The Braves' Pardon Ndhlovu and Zach Bayless were first and second, while junior Clay Holton paced the Jags in third with an effort of 25:46.0.

Freshman Dustin Ross (26:07.1) was sixth and Robert Blackwelder gave ASU three top-10 showings with his 10th-place effort at 26:36.1.

Matt Johnson (27:42.4) was 17th, Adam Aldridge (27:47.4) crossed the line 18th, Joey Castillo (27:53.4) was 19th, Sean Kramer (27:59.7) took 20th and Shane Huckeba (28:38.3) was 23rd.

ASU returns to action in two weeks for the Peach Belt Conference Championships at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.
