Jaguars Cruise to a Win over Georgia College

Milledgeville, Ga. - The Augusta University Volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over the Georgia College Bobcats in a conference match. The Jags improve to 21-7 overall and are now 5-3 in conference play. The Bobcats fall to 7-16 on the season and are now 1-7 in conference match-ups.

The Jags were led by Chloe Allen and Nicolette Ramos with 12 kills each. Ramos hit an unbelievable .647, while Allen hit an equally stellar .579 for the match. Not to be left out was Jessica Hedrick who picked up eight kills and hit an even .500 for the night. Payton Murchie dished out a team leading 24 assists, while Samantha Zittrauer amassed 18. Though she didn't have many kills in the match, Kylie Martin was able to pick up four service aces to lead the Jaguars.

As a team the Jags were an absolute force offensively, outhitting their opponent .347 to .085 and notching 47 kills to the Bobcats' 28.

Defensively, Augusta saw Holland Martin lead with 13 digs, while K. Martin picked up 10 of her own. Allen also found herself a leader defensively, picking up five blocks.

Augusta dominated from the start, taking the first set 25-10 from the home team. The visitors opened the set up with a 4-0 run before the Bobcats could secure their first point. Georgia college fought back early to make it 7-6, but Augusta turned on the heat as seemingly Innocent kill by K. Martin started a 15 point run for the Jaguars. K. Martin would just stop with a kill, as she picked up three service aces in the run. Allen would put the final touches on a dominant first set with a textbook kill of her own.

The second set saw the Bobcats open the scoring with a 3-0 run. From that point on though, it would be a back and forth affair between both sides as the squads found themselves tied 13-13 at the halfway mark. Augusta would then go on to win seven of the next nine points to put some distance between them and their opponent at 20-15. After Georgia College picked up the next three points to make it 20-18, the Jaguars knocked off four in a row of their own to put the set out of reach. This time the blocking trio of Allen, Nedu Evans, and Jessica Hedrick closed out the set 25-19.

In the third and final set Augusta looked to have an easy road to the victory as they dominated through the first half of the set 16-9. The Bobcats wouldn't keep it that way though, as they clawed their way back into things, bringing the score to within one at 18-17. Both sides would trade off the next four points, but with Augusta still holding the one point advantage, K. Martin started another Jaguar run of three to make it match point at 24-20. Georgia College staved off defeat for one more point, but an attack error by the home squad would seal their fate as the Jags took the set 25-21 to get the win.

Augusta continues their road trip as they head to Florence, S.C. for a match with the Francis Marion Patriots on Friday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m.
