Jags Pounce on a Victory for Pink Out

Augusta, Ga. – The Augusta University Volleyball team defeated the Georgia College Bobcats 3-0 in a conference match. The Jags improve to 17-6 on the year with an even 2-2 record in PBC play. The Bobcats fall to 6-13 overall and 0-4 in Peach Belt contests.

The Jaguars were led offensively by Nicolette Ramos who totaled 15 kills on the evening. Jessica Hedrick had an outstanding night offensively, managing 11 kills and a team high .400 hitting percentage. Payton Murchie was the assists leader for the squad, dishing out 32 to her teammates.

On the defensive side of the match, the Jaguars were led by Holland Martin's 19 digs, followed closely by Kylie Martin with 17. K. Martin also picked up another double double with 10 kills to go with her dig total.

The first set saw the Bobcats lead for a majority of the set, Augusta was forced to burn the first timeout of the match to regroup. Augusta clawed their way back in to tie the score up 21-21 thanks to a service ace from K. Martin. The Bobcats picked the lead back up on the next point from their timeout, but a solo block from Hedrick knotted it up again at 22. With the score now 24-22 Georgia College, the Jags benefited from some timely errors from the visitors to bring the score to 24-24. Both teams traded points after the 25 mark before Madison Malloch slammed down a kill to win the set 29-27.

The second set opened up with a textbook kill from Hedrick to set the tone. After trading a few of the early points, the Jags went on a six point run to make it 10-4. The Bobcats were forced to take a timeout at the halfway mark trailing 12-5 to try and slow the pace of the match. Both squads went back to trading points, but with Augusta holding a sizeable lead, the visitors had to take another timeout. The Jaguars wouldn't let up however, as they continued their dominance of the set, thanks in part to three straight kills by Hedrick. With the score 24-11, Murchie dished out a service ace to seal the set for the Jags.

Augusta looked to use the momentum of the second set to open the third. However the Bobcats came out fighting, trading points with the home squad to start things off. A service ace from Julianne Saliba started the Jags off, giving them their first multi-point lead of the set. Again the Bobcats were forced to take a timeout early as they trailed 10-4. As they did in the previous set, the Jags dominated the play, as Georgia College only managed to muster nine points for the remainder of the set. Ramos would put an end to the match with a solid kill to make the final score 25-13.

Augusta will return to action on Friday, October, 25th, when they take on UNC Pembroke at 7:00.
