Augusta Splits on Day 2 of PBC/SAC Regional Crossover

Jefferson City, Tenn. – The Augusta University Volleyball team closed out the PBC/SAC Regional Crossover tournament by splitting their two matchups against both Carson Newman and Lincoln Memorial.

With the loss to Carson-Newman, and their victory over Lincoln Memorial, the Jaguars are now 15-4 on the year.

In their first match of the day, the Jaguars lost to the Eagles in four sets (25-20, 12-25, 22-25, 18-25). Despite the solid performance in the first set, the Jags were outplayed by their opponents in nearly every category. The Jags were out hit 56 to 41 in kills while Carson-Newman earned a team hitting percentage of .306 to Augusta's .164.

Individually, the Jags saw Kylie Martin lead the squad with nine kills and four errors on 24 swings, finishing the match with a .208 hitting percentage. Kassie Till topped the list for assists with 17 on the day, while Payton Murchie managed 16.

Murchie, along with Holland and Kylie Martin, all managed 10 digs in the contest, while Chloe Allen led Augusta in blocks with three.

In the nightcap, the Jaguars battled the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters emerging victorious in five sets. Every set was a lopsided affair, with both teams winning their respective sets by no less than seven points until the end, where the Jags managed to battle back and forth with the Railsplitters before sealing it 15-13.

Augusta was shut down in the first set 25-15, but would return the favor in the second with a 25-14 win. Lincoln Memorial took the third set 25-18, while The Jaguars forced the fifth set with a 25-16 set win.

Till and Murchie earned double-doubles on the evening with Murchie's team high 26 assists and 10 digs and Till's 15 assists and 10 digs. Jessica Hedrick turned in an outstanding performance with 10 kills and two errors on 20 swings for a hitting percentage of .400, tied with Allen for the team high. She also led the team with six blocks in the match. Madison Malloch led Augusta with 14 kills in the match, while hitting .225 and managing three blocks.

The Jaguars return home for their next match when they take on the Queens Royals on Tuesday, Oct. 15th at 6:00 p.m.
