First Day of PBC/SAC Regional Crossover in the Books

Mars Hill, N.C. – The Augusta University Volleyball team finished the first day of the PBC/SAC Regional Crossover tournament with a pair of wins over Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill. With the wins, the Jaguars improve to 14-3 on the season.

The Jags faced off against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in the first match of the day, defeating them in straight sets, 25-21, 26-24, and 25-19.

Leading the way for the Augusta offensively was Madison Malloch with 16 kills and three errors on 34 swings for a team leading .382 hitting percentage. Nicolette Ramos narrowly missed a double-double in the contest as she managed 11 kills and nine digs.

Augusta played an excellent defensive match, seeing three individuals notch double digit totals in digs. Holland Martin led the squad with 17 digs on the afternoon, while Payton Murchie picked up 13. Murchie also earned a double-double in the match, picking up a team leading 19 assists to go with her dig total. Kylie Martin showed off her defensive talents with 12 digs and a pair of blocks to go with six kills.

As a team, the Jags totaled 14 blocks to Lenoir-Rhyne's eight. Standout Chloe Allen accounted for five of the Jags total. Augusta also out hit Lenoir-Rhyne with 48 kills to the Bears' 28, and a hitting percentage of .199, to .098.

In the second match of the day, Augusta battled day one's host Mars Hill, emerging victorious in four sets (17-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22).

Kylie Martin put on a spectacular offensive showcase picking up yet another double-double with 13 kills to go with 15 digs. Ramos led the team with 14 kills on the evening and nabbed the elusive double-double with 10 digs. Murchie would add a second consecutive double-double for the day, giving Augusta three players to earn the honor in this match alone, leading the team with 26 assists and 17 digs. Kassie Till would pick up 16 assists by the contest's end as well.

Holland Martin led the Jaguar defense with 21 digs, while Allen and Hedrick picked up four blocks to lead the squad together.

Augusta returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn. for the second day of the PBC/Sac Regional Crossover. They'll start the day with Carson-Newman at 1:00 p.m. followed by Lincoln Memorial at 5:00 p.m.
