AUGUSTA, Ga.
– The Augusta University volleyball team defeated West Alabama 3-1 in a non-conference contest.

The Jaguars are now 7-2 on the season while the Tigers are now 3-7.

Kylie Martin led the way with a match-high 18 kills. In addition, she earned a double-double with 16 digs, a match high.

Former Tiger, Kassie Till, dished out a match-best 35 assists. She also tallied 11 digs, enough for a double-double of her own, and five of Augusta's seven service aces.

For the match, Augusta University hit .202, while holding the Tigers to .065.

Augusta took the lead early on in the match taking the first set by a score of 25-18. It was a back and forth affair early on in the set with Augusta clinging to 12-10 lead. However, winning nine of the next 12 points, the Jags jumped ahead 21-13 and never looked back.

West Alabama fought the Jags fiercely in the second set to snatch a victory by a score of 25-23. Augusta jumped ahead 8-3 early in the set, but several miscues caused them to fall behind. The Jags made it close again pulling within one at 24-23, but another error on Augusta gave the set to the Tigers.

The Jags bounced back in the third with a dominating performance of 25-14. Till fired off a pair of service aces to open things up. The jags powered through the West Alabama defense winning 15 of the first 20 points. Madison Malloch was a huge factor in the run, earning five kills and finishing the set with seven. Nicolette Ramos ended the stanza with a kill off the hands of Till.

In the fourth set, the Jags kept the same attack plan, going ahead 11-3. West Alabama would fight their way back in, pulling within five late in the set. Augusta would hold strong, as they finished the match with a wire-to-wire 25-18 set victory to end the match.


The Jaguars return to action tomorrow when they play Montevallo at 12:30 p.m. and Southern Arkansas at 3:00 p.m.
