Jaguars Knock Off Crusaders

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team defeated Belmont Abbey 3-1 Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest.

The Jaguars are now 6-2 on the season while the Crusaders are now 0-9.

Chloe Allen led the way with a match-high 14 kills. She posted a match-best seven block assists and also posted seven digs. Kylie Martin hammered home 12 kills to go along with nine digs and seven block assists.

Nicolette Ramos accounted for a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs.

Payton Murchie dished out a match-best 29 assists. She also tallied seven digs and a match-high four aces. Defensively, Holland Martin posted 15 digs to lead all student-athletes.

For the match, Augusta University hit .197 while holding the Crusaders to .078.

Leading 20-17 in the first frame, a miscue by the visitors and a kill from Martin started a run. The Jaguars held a 24-18 lead and moments later, Jessica Hedrick slammed home a kill from Kassie Till for a three-point victory.

In the second set, Augusta University led 20-11 before Allen found the court on back-to-back plays. Madison Malloch added a kill. Two mistakes by BAC propelled the Jaguars to a 25-14 win.

After dropping the third set, Augusta University left no doubt. The team pounced on the Crusaders for a 7-1 lead after Allen and Martin combined for a block at the net. The team cruised to the 25-15 victory.

The Jaguars return to action Friday when they play West Alabama at 6 p.m.
