Jags Fall At Lander In Five Sets To Wrap Regular Season

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Augusta University volleyball team competed in its final regular-season match of the 2018 season and lost 3-2 in Peach Belt Conference play at Lander University on Saturday afternoon

 

Heading into the postseason and ranked second in the NCAA Southeast Region, Augusta finishes 21-7 overall and 7- 5 in the Peach Belt. Lander is now 22-6 and 8-4.

 

The Bearcats won 25-14 to start the match before Augusta answered with 25-20 and 25-21 wins in the second and third sets. Lander stormed back and won an extended fourth set, 28-26, and took the match 15-6 in the fifth and deciding set.

 

Augusta's McKenzey Beck was all over the court and got her seventh triple-double of the season with 21 assists, 21 digs and a team-high 18 kills. Senior Savanna Gonzales gave AU 13 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore Chloe Allen put up 10 kills, four digs, and three blocks.

 

Sophomore libero Holland Martin added 30 digs and four assists for the Jags and junior Cheryke Brian-Garmos had 32 assists and nine digs.

 

The Peach Belt Conference Tournament is Nov. 10-11 in Greenwood, S.C., hosted by the Lander Bearcats.
