Jags Beat Francis Marion, 3-1, On Pink Out Night

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team won 3-1 over the Francis Marion Patriots in Peach Belt Conference play on Friday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.  

 

Ranked third in the NCAA Southeast Region, the Jaguars are now 19-5 overall and 6-3 in the league, while FMU is now 13-12 and 4-6 in the Peach Belt.

 

Augusta held its annual Pink Out match to raise awareness and support for the Georgia Cancer Center. The team presented a check for $1,800 to the cancer center and had cancer survivors and information about the event on site.

 

AU tied set one 21-all on a block and went on a 4-0 run to overtake the Patriots for a 25-22 win. FMU fought hard to win the next set 25-23, but Augusta dominated the third set 25-12 and sealed the match with a 25-19 set-four win.

 

Senior Savanna Gonzales gave the team 15 kills and 18 digs and junior Jessica Hedrick and sophomore Alyssa Frazier each added 12 kills. Jags junior Cheryke Brian-Garmos posted 41 assists and 12 digs, while sophomore Holland Martin posted 32 digs.

 

The Jags will celebrate 2018 Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 27 during its Peach Belt Conference match against UNC Pembroke at 12:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars will recognize and celebrate the careers of seniors McKenzey Beck, Blair Bolton, Nathalia Gouveia, and Savanna Gonzales in a pre-match ceremony.
