Jags Drop 3-1 Road Match At Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team played its first Peach Belt Conference match on the road this season with a Friday night faceoff against Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga. The Jaguars (11-3, 1-1 PBC) dropped a 3-1 contest to GC (8-6, 1-1 PBC) in the Centennial Center.

 

Set one had 11 tied scores, but Augusta prevailed for a 25-23 win. After an attack error, GC called a timeout down 23-22. The Jags got the next kill and hung on for the close set-one victory. The Bobcats bounced back with their own 25-23 in the second set and took the next two 27-25 and 25-20 to win the match.

 

AU seniors Savanna Gonzales and Blair Bolton led the offense with Gonzales posting 15 kills and Bolton 10. Gonzales added nine digs and Bolton four assisted blocks. Senior McKenzey Beck had 15 assists, 11 digs, and seven kills for Augusta, and sophomore Chloe Allen carded eight kills, six assisted blocks, and three digs.

 

Junior Cheryke Brian-Garmos notched 26 assists and 10 digs for the Jags and sophomore Holland Martin put up 19 digs. The offense was evenly matched with AU hitting .146 to GC's .150 hitting percentage.

 

Augusta plays two conference matches on the road next week, facing UNC Pembroke in Pembroke, N.C. Sept. 28 and Francis Marion in Florence, S.C. on Sept. 29.
