AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team competed in its first Peach Belt Conference match of the season on Friday night and swept the Flagler Saints 3-0 in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Flagler (5-7, 0-1 PBC) was picked to win the league in the PBC preseason coaches poll, but Augusta (11-2, 1-0 PBC) took care of business of their home court.

Sophomore Chloe Allen led Augusta with 10 kills, four aces, five digs, and a block. Senior Savanna Gonzales notched seven kills with three digs, while senior McKenzey Beck and junior Jessica Hedrick each had six kills. Hedrick added seven assisted blocks and Beck picked up 15 assists and six digs.

Senior Nathalia Gouveia started the match on serve and led AU to a 4-0 run. The Jags led 7-1 after a service ace that forced Flagler to call the first timeout of the night. A 25-16 first-set victory put Augusta on top quick. The Jags enjoyed another 4-0 run at the start of the second and went on to win 25-16 again. The Saints stuck around longer in the third set, but the Jags were too much to handle and owned a 25-22 set.

AU had five aces to Flagler's one and blocked five more shots than the Saints.

The Jaguars head to Georgia College on Tuesday, Sept. 25 for another PBC match at 7:00 p.m. in Milledgeville, Ga.
