Augusta Wins PBC Road Matches At UNCP & FMU

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team played back-to-back Peach Belt Conference road matches Sept. 28-29 at UNC Pembroke and Francis Marion. Facing the UNCP Braves in Pembroke, N.C. on Sept. 28, AU swept the match 3-0 and defeated Francis Marion 3-1 in Florence, S.C. on Saturday.

 

The league matches moved the Jags to 13-3 overall and 3-1 in the league. The Jaguars host three matches this week in Christenberry Fieldhouse. AU hosts Faculty Appreciation Night on Tuesday, Oct. 2 for its 7:00 p.m. match against Emmanuel. Lander visits the Jags on Friday, Oct. 5 for a 7:00 p.m. match and USC Aiken comes to town Saturday, Oct. 6 for s 2:00 p.m. first serve. The Wounded Warrior Project will be in attendance on Oct. 6 to cheer on the Jags.

 

AUGUSTA vs. UNC PEMBROKE

AU won 25-19, 25-23, and 25-23 to record its 10th shut-out victory of the year. Junior Jessica Hedrick was the only Jaguar with double-digit kills (10), as the offense shared the love with four players recording six or more kills. Augusta senior McKenzey Beck notched 17 assists, eight kills, and five digs, senior Savanna Gonzales had nine kills with seven digs, and junior setter Cheryke Brian-Garmos posted 21 assists and three digs.

 

AUGUSTA vs. FRANCIS MARION

After dropping the first set 25-21, the Jags stormed back and won the next three sets 25-23, 25-17, and a dominant 25-7. Three AU players carded double-figure kills with sophomores Chloe Allen and Alyssa Frazier turning in 11 each and Beck 10. Beck added 25 assists and nine digs and there were four players with double-figure digs as well. Holland Martin led the team with 24 digs, Nathalia Gouveia 17, Brian-Garmos 11, and Gonzales 10.
