Jags Send Shorter Home In 3-1 Win

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team won a 3-1 non-conference match over the Shorter Hawks on Tuesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

 

Augusta improved to 7-1 on the season and Shorter moved to 1-3 overall. AU is now undefeated at home in the Berry.

 

The match started with the Jags taking a lead, but the Hawks held on and tied the first set 11-11. From there, the set went down to the wire, but Shorter sealed a 25-23 win. Augusta responded on its home floor and evened the match with a 25-12 victory, before dominating set three 25-8. In the fourth and final set, the Jaguars stormed ahead 8-2 and went on to win 25-14.

 

Augusta senior setter McKenzey Beck delivered her second triple-double of the season with 16 assists, 13 digs, and 10 kills. Senior Savanna Gonzales put up 12 kills and 10 digs, junior Cheryke Brian-Garmos gave AU 25 assists and 12 digs, and junior Jessica Hedrick blocked five shots and posted eight kills.

 

The Jaguars co-host a tournament Sept. 7-8 in the Augusta / USC Aiken Invitational. The non-conference tournament will take place at Augusta's Christenberry Fieldhouse and USCA'S Convocation Center. The Jags face Catawba on Friday, Sept. 7 (7:00 p.m.) and meet Carson-Newman (2:30 p.m.) and West Alabama (5:00 p.m.) on Saturday, Sept. 8.
