Jaguars Get Sixth Shutout Win To Split Final Day At Queens Fall Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Augusta University volleyball team played a pair of non-conference matches in the second and final day of the Queens Fall Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Jaguars suffered their first loss of the season with a 3-1 defeat to Wingate, before shutting out Barton 3-0 in the Levine Center.

 

Next up, AU (6-1) hosts the Shorter University Hawks on Tuesday, Sept. 4 for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars have teamed with Panda Express for a fundraiser event to help support the volleyball program. On Sept. 4, fans are encouraged to go to Panda Express on Robert C Daniel Jr Pkwy and Wheeler Road from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Panda Express will donate 20 percent of event sales back to the Augusta University volleyball team.

 

Augusta vs. Wingate

Wingate pulled out a close 25-20 set-one win to start the match. Despite AU responding with a 25-17 win in set two, the Bulldogs booked two more wins (25-15, 25-16) to take the match. The defense was evenly matched with the Jags posting 14.0 blocks and Wingate 14.5.

 

Five Jaguars had five or more kills, with senior McKenzey Beck leading the way with eight and nine assists and digs. Junior Jessica Hedrick gave the Jags seven kills, four assisted blocks, and two digs, and sophomore Alyssa Frazier blocked seven shots with five kills.

 

Augusta vs. Barton

The Jags killed 10 more points than Barton and hit .261 as a team to Barton's 0.18 attack percentage. AU won 25-13, 25-16, and 25-15 to get their sixth win of the season without dropping a set.

 

Senior Savanna Gonzales had seven kills and one attack error to hit .500 while adding 11 digs and four aces. Beck carded 16 assists and six digs for Augusta, junior Cheryke Brian-Garmos added 13 assists and 11 digs, and sophomore Holland Martin delivered 14 digs in the win.
