AU Sweeps Montevallo To Complete Jaguar Rumble

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team met the Montevallo Falcons on Sunday afternoon to conclude the Jaguar Rumble Tournament and Augusta shined to win 3-0 in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

 

 

The Jaguars (3-0) started the event on Saturday and swept a pair of 3-0 matches over Albany State and Mount Olive. Facing Montevallo (2-1), AU completed the flawless weekend with its third 3-0 victory.

 

Augusta laced it up to take on the Falcons in the 2:30 p.m. match. Set one went to AU 25-20, with the Jags posting 14 kills to UM's 10 in the opening rally. Montevallo pushed Augusta to the limit in set two, but the Jags survived for a 26-24 win to take a 2-0 match lead. Augusta owned the third 25-19.

 

Senior McKenzey Beck had six digs and six assists after set one and she finished the day with 16 assists, 10 digs, and 10 kills – her first triple-double of the season. Sophomore Chloe Allen posted 11 kills with a pair of aces and digs, while junior Cheryke Brian-Garmos added 18 assists and eight digs.

 

AU had a .274 attack percentage to UM's .148, while posting eight blocks to UM's four.

 

Augusta heads to the Queens Fall Classic in Charlotte, N.C. August 31-September 1 to take on Anderson, Winston-Salem, Wingate, and Barton in a neutral-site tournament.
