Jaguars Upend UNC Pembroke, 3-1

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team took on the UNC Pembroke Braves on the road Friday night and prevailed 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference match at the English E. Jones Center.

 

Augusta moved to 13-10 on the season and 4-3 in the PBC. Augusta completed the regular-season sweep of the UNCP Braves, after winning 3-1 at home on Sept. 16. UNCP is now 4-19 overall and 0-7 in the league.

 

AU junior Savanna Gonzales shined for the team with 16 kills. Jags junior McKenzey Beck locked in 14 kills and 23 assists, freshman Chloe Allen added nine kills and five blocks, and sophomore Payton Murchie posted 22 assists and three aces.

 

AU had a .246 hitting percentage to UNCP's .172. Makaylah Eliott led the Braves with 13 kills and Aquia Jones and Madelyn Ashwell had 11 kills.

 

Augusta continues the PBC weekend with a trip to Florence, S.C., on Saturday, Oct. 21 to face Francis Marion at 2:00 p.m.

 

The annual Augusta University women's volleyball Pink Out match to raise awareness and support for the Georgia Cancer Center will take place on Monday, Oct. 23 for the Jaguars' home match in Christenberry Fieldhouse against the Limestone Saints at 7:00 p.m.
