Jaguars Take Down Peach Belt Leading Lander, 3-1

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team knocked off the top team in the Peach Belt Conference standings with a 3-1 comeback win over Lander on Friday night. The Jaguars recovered from a first loss and won three sets in a row to hand Lander their first league loss of the year.

 

Augusta moved to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Peach Belt, while Lander slid to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

 

Leading the PBC in kills and points, fourth in assists, and third in aces, AU junior McKenzey Beck posted her fifth triple-double of the year with 13 kills, 31 assists, and 23 digs. Junior Blair Bolton also had 13 kills, while juniors Savanna Gonzales and Natalia Gouveia each had 10 kills.

 

After falling in a close 25-22 first set, Augusta owned set two 25-11 with a .278 attack percentage. They pulled out a 25-23 set-four win and 25-22 final set victory to take the night. The Jags held the Bearcats to a .109 hitting percentage, while posting a .228 mark.

 

Lander's Hannah Hritz posted 17 kills and Kristin Martindale had 10.

 

Augusta hosts Erskine College on Monday, Sept. 25 at 6:00 p.m. for a non-conference match in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
