Jags Fall To Flagler In Five Sets

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team hosted Peach Belt Conference foe Flagler College on Friday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse and dropped a 3-2 battle.

 

Augusta moved to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the Peach Belt, while Flagler survived the Jaguars to get to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.

 

At the first timeout of set one, the Jags were up 10-5. Sophomore Jessica Hedrick hammered a kill later in the set to bring the score to 16- for Augusta. The Saints trailed at 21-20, but PBC Player of the Week McKenzey Beck had a kill to put Flagler down two. A surprising turn around brought Flagler and AU tied 25-all, but the Jags fought and a kill from junior Natalia Gouveia capped the first set for the Jags at 27-25.

 

Flagler lead first in set two and held AU 10-5 to result in a Jaguar timeout. The Saints ended set two at 25-22 to tie the match. Augusta started off set three at 3-0, but a service error lead Flagler on a five point run. AU junior Blair Bolton tied the score for the Jags at 7-7 with a kill, but the Saints went on two take third 25-19 win for the lead.

 

After a loss for the Jaguars in set three, Beck began set four by hammering a kill right off the first serve. The Jaguars were on top in the second timeout at 12-6 and AU finished on top of set four 25-19 to force a fifth.

 

Flagler won the fifth 15-13 and the match 3-2, but only hit .195 to AU's 199 hitting percentage. Flagler's 12 blocks helped them to the victory, while AU recorded five.

 

Beck booked 24 assists, 15 digs, 11 kills, while Hedrick had 16 kills, Natalia Gouveia 14 and Savanna Gonzales 11 kills. Sophomore setter Payton Murchie recorded 21 assists and 12 digs.

 

Sara Davis led Flagler and the match with 20 kills and Tara Savisky provided 32 assists.
