Augusta Sweeps Day Two Of USC Aiken Invitational

AIKEN, S.C. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team grabbed a 3-1 win over Fayetteville State and swept Barton College in day two of the USC Aiken Invitational in the Convocation Center.  

 

Hosted by USC Aiken in the Convocation Center, the USC Aiken Invitational featured Augusta, Anderson, Barton, Fayetteville State, Lander, Mount Olive, USC Aiken, and Valdosta State.

 

Augusta moved to 6-3 on the year with the pair of non-conference victories. They went 3-1 in the tourney.

 

The Jaguars begin Peach Belt Conference play on Friday, Sept. 15 when they host Francis Marion at 7:00 p.m. The next day, Augusta welcomes UNC Pembroke for another PBC match at 2:00 p.m. on Sept. 16.

 

Match 1 vs. Fayetteville State

Starting off day two of the tournament with a 10:00 a.m. match, Augusta rolled Fayetteville State, 3-1. FSU fought off the Jags with a 27-25 extended win, but Augusta answered with three straight set victories (25-17, 25-13, and 25-14). AU had a hitting percentage of .263, while holding the FSU Broncos to a .007 mark.

 

Augusta sophomore Savanna Roy had eight kills, three assisted blocks, and six digs. Junior McKenzey Beck stayed strong with 22 assists, nine kills, and seven digs, while sophomore Jessica Hedrick and junior Savanna Gonzales provided 10 kills each.

 

Freshman Brooklyn Holthaus had 13 assists in her debut with an ace and five digs, while freshman Holland Martin put up 32 assists and an ace.

 

Match 2 vs. Barton

Augusta started the match with a 25-18 set-one victory – posting three blocks to Barton's zero and hitting .239 to their .103. AU followed it wins of 25-16 and 25-17 to sweep the Bulldogs. AU held their opponent to under a .100 hitting for the second-straight match when BC hit .087 to AU's .222.

 

Beck led with 10 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore Payton Murchie had 21 assists and eight digs. Martin had 26 digs in the win and Stokes 17 for AU.
