Augusta Opens Season At Queens Invitational Over Labor Day Weekend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Augusta University women's volleyball teams opens the season for the third consecutive year in Charlotte, N.C., at the Queens Invitational Sept. 1-2 where they play four non-conference matches in the Levine Center. Augusta takes on the Winston-Salem Rams and Wingate Bulldogs on Friday and the Vulcans of California University (Pennsylvania) and the Queens University Royals to conclude the invitational on Saturday.

Augusta head coach Sharon Quarles' roster consists of seven returners and 10 new players for 2017. The returning Jags include last year's PBC Freshman of the Year and 2017 preseason All-Conference selection Jessica Hedrick, 2016 second team All-Conference selection Blair Bolton and PBC All-Academic honoree Savanna Gonzales.

 

In addition to Augusta and host Queens, other teams competing during the weekend will be California University of Pennsylvania, Francis Marion University, Wingate University, Shorter University and Winston-Salem State University. Five separate conferences will be represented in the invitational, including the South Atlantic Conference and the Peach Belt Conference.

  • Friday, Sept. 1, Augusta vs. Winston-Salem @ 10:30 a.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 1, Augusta vs. Wingate @ 3:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 2, Augusta vs. California University of Pennsylvania @ 10:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 2, Augusta vs. Queens @ 2:00 p.m.
