AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference has revealed the 2017 volleyball preseason All-Conference team and Augusta University sophomore Jessica Hedrick represent the Jaguars on the list. The seven players named to the squad represent four of the seven PBC volleyball programs.
Flagler led the league with three selections, while USC Aiken was next with two. Augusta and Georgia College had one player each. The team is selected by the league's head coaches.
Jessica Hedrick, Augusta
- A sophomore middle blocker from St. Louis, Mo., she was the 2016 PBC Freshman of the Year
- Ranked fourth in the PBC in total blocks, 10th in blocks per set and seventh in solo blocks
- Led the team and was ninth in the conference with a .292 hitting percentage; was fourth on the team with 266 total kills and 2.06 kills per set
- Had eight matches of double-digit kills
Sara Davis, Flagler
- A senior from Akron, Ohio, she was named an AVCA All-American as well as a first-team All-Region selection by the D2CCA
- The 2016 PBC Tournament MVP, she was also a first-team All-Conference selection
- Ranked third in the PBC with a .332 hitting percentage and was second in the conference in total blocks
- Also ranked in the PBC top 10 in total kills, kills per set, blocks per set and solo blocks
- The 2014 PBC Freshman of the Year, she could become only the seventh PBC player in history to earn four All-Conference selections; her 1,142 career kills and 307 career blocks are also close to cracking the PBC's all-time career lists
Julia Forster, USC Aiken
- A senior outside hitter from Long Island, N.Y., she was named PBC second-team All-Conference in 2016
- Played in all 35 matches for the Pacers and was second in the league with 457 total kills, she was also fifth in kills per set (3.39)
- Had 27 matches of double-digit kills in 2016, tied for the league lead, and 10 double-doubles
- Had 15 kills and 21 digs against Lander and was named the PBC Player of the Week on Nov. 1; also had two matches of 20 or more kills including 21 against Barton in the NCAA Tournament
Raquel Kulak, Flagler
- A junior middle hitter from Melbourne, Fla., she moves to Flagler after playing the previous two years at Armstrong State and earning second-team All-Conference honors in 2016
- Was ranked second in the PBC with 109 total blocks in 2016, also led the league with 33 solo blocks and was fifth in blocks per set
- Ranked in the PBC top 10 with a .292 hitting percentage
- Had double-digit kills in 15 matches last season and was named to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll
Tara Savisky, Flagler
- A junior setter from Oakdale, Pa., she was a second-team All-Conference selection in 2016
- Ranked third in the PBC in assists per set (10.72) and total assists (1329) and guided Flagler to the second-highest team hitting percentage in the PBC
- Twice named the PBC Specialist of the Week, she also averaged 2.56 digs per set and recorded 47 kills
- The 2015 PBC co-Freshman of the Year, she was named to the PBC All-Academic Team and is a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar
Taylor Svehla, Georgia College
- A junior middle blocker from Cumming, Ga., she played in all 31 matches for the Bobcats with 2.85 kills and 0.81 blocks per set
- The 2015 PBC co-Freshman of the Year, she was 10th in the conference in total blocks and seventh in solo blocks
- Also ranked 10th in the league in kills per set with 17 matches of double-figure kills
- Named to the PBC All-Academic Team and a Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar
Emily Teelon, USC Aiken
- A senior setter from Aiken, S.C., she was named the 2016 PBC Setter of the Year and a first-team All-Conference selection
- Led the Peach Belt and was ranked 17th in NCAA Division II with 11.39 assists per set; also led the league and was 13th nationally with 1,401 total assists
- Named first-team All-Region by the AVCA and D2CCA and was a five-time PBC Specialist of the Week
- Led USCA to the third-best hitting percentage in the PBC as the Pacers won the NCAA Southeast Regional and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history
