Augusta Volleyball Falls To Top Ranked USC Aiken, 3-0

AIKEN, S.C. – The Augusta Jaguars played at rival USC Aiken for a Peach Belt Conference contest on Saturday afternoon in the Convocation Center and fell in three straight sets to the top-ranked Pacers.

Ranked first in the NCAA Southeast Region and leading the Peach Belt Conference standings, USC Aiken (27-3, 16-2 PBC) proved too much for Augusta (17-14, 8-9 PBC) in the late season matchup.

Aiken won 25-16 and 25-17 in the opening sets, but the Jags pushed set three and led 20-17 at one point. The Jags let USCA back into a 22-22 tie set and head coach Sharon Quarles called a timeout to pause the Pacers.

Out of the timeout, Jags setter Payton Murchie set up senior Rachel Windle for a go-ahead kill, but it wasn't enough as the Pacers pushed past Augusta for a 26-24 extra-point win.

The Jaguars shared the offense in the match with six players recording multiple kills. Sophomore Savanna Gonzales gave the team eight kills and no errors for a .61 attack percentage. Windle had seven kills and two blocks, Hedrick posted five kills and pair of blocks and digs.

Murchie managed 20 assists and three digs and senior Catherine DeSilvester 13 digs and three aces. USC Aiken's Julia Forsted had a match-best 12 kills in the contest. Augusta ended the day with a .144 attack percentage to USCA's .272

Augusta ends the regular season with a makeup match at Flagler College on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla.
