Jags Avenge Early Season Loss To Lander With 3-1 Road Win

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Augusta University women's volleyball started off a busy weekend on Friday night in a Peach Belt Conference match at Lander University and won 3-1.

 

The Jags (17-13, 8-8 PBC) and Bearcats (20-10, 8-8 PBC) split the regular-season meetings after Lander won 3-0 in Augusta on Oct. 18.

 

Lander opened the night with a 25-17 set one triumph, but Augusta regrouped and rallied for three straight sets to take the match (25-20, 25-16, and 26-24).

 

Leading the team offensively, was Jags senor Jordan Bickett with 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior Rachel Windle added 11 kills, three digs, and three blocks, and sophomore Savanna Gonzales and freshman Jessica Hedrick had nine kills each. Sophomore Blair Bolton chipped in eight kills.

 

Senior Cat DeSilvester and freshman Sammie Baker each had 13 digs, with Baker adding 16 assists and freshman Payton Murchie had 28 assists.

 

Augusta and Lander each had a .176 attack percentage in the match. LU had 12 blocks to Augusta's four, but the team had 54 kills to Lander's 48. Lander was led by Halle Dotson's 16 kills.

 

The Jaguars hit the road and plays at USC Aiken in Aiken, S.C., on Saturday, Nov. 12 for a 2:00 p.m. match. The wrap the regular season with a makeup match at Flagler College on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla.
