Augusta Overcomes Erskine 3-1 On The Road

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team played a midweek non-conference match at Erskine College on Tuesday night and came back from an early deficit to win 3-1.

Augusta (15-10) is now 6-5 on the road this year with the victory. The game was the seventh-consecutive matchup between the Jags and Fleet (15-9). Augusta is 4-3 in that span over Erskine.

Sophomore Savannah Gonzales shined for Augusta with team-high 15 kills. It was her 17th match this season in double-digit kills. Jags senior Jordan Bickett carded her 12th double-double of the year with 16 kills and 13 kills and freshman Jessica Hedrick was three shy of her career high with 12 kills. Hedrick did it all with nine digs, an ace, and five blocks.

The Jags had 50 assists from freshman setter Payton Murchie and senior Catherine DeSilvester posted 22 digs. Senior JaNhea Beisner booked 10 digs and two aces and sophomore Blair Bolton 10 kills and three digs.

Set one went to Erskine 25-21. Augusta scored the first point of the night, but the Fleet stole the next two points and never dropped the lead. Kills from Gonzales, senior Rachel Windle, and Bickett put the Jaguars on top to open set two. Surviving a 27-25 set two-win to tie the match, Augusta triumphed 25-20 and 25-17 for the comeback win.

The Jaguars host 2016 Senior Day Weekend this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5. On Friday, Nov. 4 Augusta hosts Armstrong State at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 5 the Jaguars take on Flagler College at 2:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse. A 2016 Senior Day ceremony will take place prior to Saturdays match.
