Jaguars Can’t Complete Comeback In 3-1 Defeat At Armstrong State

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team played Armstrong State for the second time in three days on Monday night and fell 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference match on the road. The contest was a makeup match, after Hurricane Matthew washed out the previously planned meeting on Oct. 8.

The Jaguars (15-13, 6-8 PBC) recently hosted the Pirates (20-6, 10-5 PBC) on Friday, Nov. 3 and fell in a five-set heartbreaker in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

On Monday seniors Rachel Windle and Jordan Bickett and sophomore Blair Bolton each had 10 kills to the lead Augusta. Windle added two aces and Bickett eight digs. Freshman Kenya Stokes dished out 13 digs and senior Catherine DeSilvester 10 digs for the Jags.

Armstrong's Rachel Thompson produced a match-best 16 kills, Raquel Kulak 14 kills, and Raegan Grooms 12 kills. Carley Eiken had 48 assists and Kelley Adkins three aces and 10 digs.

The Jags were down 10-5 in set one, but three-straight points from Augusta got them back in the game thanks to an ace from freshman Payton Murchie. The Jaguars tied the set 12-all which resulted in a Pirate timeout, but the Pirates proved too much in a 25-19 win.

The Pirates went up 2-0 before Augusta earned a 25-17 win in set three – matching the same score from ASU's win in set two. A .306 hitting percentage willed Augusta past Armstrong in set three as they held them to a .077 mark.

They gave the Pirates the closest set of the night in set four, but the Jaguars dropped the set 25-21. Augusta had six blocks and four aces in the loss and hit .171 for the match to ASU's .250.

The Jaguars host their final match of the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 9 against Columbus State in Christenberry Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m.
