Augusta Outlasted By Georgia College 3-1 In Four Set Fight

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team lost a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference road match at Georgia College on Wednesday night in the Centennial Center.

Augusta (13-9, 5-4 PBC) shut out Georgia College (14-7, 5-4 PBC) the last time the two teams met on Saturday, Sept. 24 in Augusta, Ga. In their second Peach Belt battle, the Jaguars went down by two sets before taking the third 25-16. They led 22-21 late in the fourth set, but the Bobcats rallied for a 27-25 victory to seal the match.

Three Jaguars recorded double-digit kills in the match led by senior Jordan Bickett's 18. Sophomore Savanna Gonzales gave the team 15 digs and sophomore Blair Bolton 10 with three assisted blocks.

GC jumped to an early lead in set one before Augusta freshman Payton Murchie set up junior Madilyn Sanderson for the team's first kill. A .432 attack percentage led to the Bobcats taking the opening set 25-20. Murchie had 13 assists in set one and Bickett five kills and two digs.

Down by two sets, the Jaguars jumped to a 25-16 victory backed on a .240 attack percentage in a third set they had to win. Augusta forced extra points with the Bobcats, but came up short in the fourth and final set 27-25.

Senior Catherine DeSilvester sits fourth in digs per set and sixth in total digs in the PBC this season. She added 31 digs on Wednesday night while Murchie posted a team-high 43 assists.

Freshman Kenya Stokes served up three aces in the match. Stokes sits fifth in the Peach Belt in service aces per set.

Carolina Long led GC with 16 kills and Kayla Brockway had a match-high 49 assists. Georgia College had 11 blocks to Augusta's six.

The squad is scheduled to face UNC Pembroke on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Pembroke, N.C. and the Jags end the weekend with another PBC match at Francis Marion on Saturday, Oct. 29 for a 2:00 p.m. match in Florence, S.C.
