Augusta Powers Past UNCP & Paine For Parents Weekend

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team hosted two matches on Saturday for Parents Weekend and the Jaguars won 3-1 over Peach Belt Conference for UNC Pembroke before beating Paine College in three straight sets.

 

 

The Jaguars (10-3, 5-1 PBC) hosted day one of Parents Weekend on Friday and outlasted Francis Marion in a 3-2 league win.

 

In the opening match against UNCP, Augusta took the opening set lead and controlled the match. In set one the score was tied seven times and there were four lead changes. The Jaguars pulled out a 25-20 win, but the match was evened when UNCP came back with a 25-20 win of their own in the second.

 

Augusta owned a 25-13 set three – backed by a .200 attack percentage. Junior Madilyn Sanderson gave the Jags the first point in set four with an opening kill and the Jags cruised to a 25-17 to take the match.

 

Neither team attacked strong, but the Jaguars posted a .161 hitting percentage to UNCP's .148.

 

Augusta sophomore Blair Bolton buried 12 kills in the win and sophomore Savanna Gonzales had 10 kills. Freshmen setters Payton Murchie (23) and Sammie Baker (12) combined for 35 assists and freshman Jessica Hedrick dealt four aces, nine kills, and four digs.

 

The Braves were led by Caroline Pridgen's 10 kills, Alicia Paeplow's 20 assists, and Josephine Yang's 24 digs.

 

Facing Paine to wrap up the weekend, the Jags blazed through the first two sets. Paine provided the closest competition in set three, but Augusta swept the match. Gonzales gave the team 15 more kills and Bolton added 10 to her daily total.

 

Partnering with the Augusta University College of Education, the Augusta Jaguars women's volleyball team will host Domestic Violence Awareness Night on Tuesday, Oct. 4 during their home match against the University of Montevallo at 6:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
