AUGUSTA, Ga. – Partnering with the Augusta University College of Education, the Augusta Jaguars women's volleyball team will host Domestic Violence Awareness Night on Tuesday, Oct. 4 during their home match against the University of Montevallo at 6:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The volleyball match is part of a campus-wide effort to raise awareness and provide supplies for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). The Augusta University College of Education and Department of Advanced Studies & Innovation are spearheading the initiative with Augusta Athletics.
In conjunction with (SPECS) Strong Partners Embracing Change and Solidarity and Safe Homes, the DVAM game will feature a supply drive to benefit the survivors. The theme of the supply drive is babies, kids, and teens.
An information table will be set up inside the gym and fans can pick up information about SPECS and SafeHomes, Title IX materials, and materials on programs at Augusta University where students can learn about partner violence (counselor education, psychology, sociology, nursing, etc).
Every October, DVAM is observed to bring to light an issue that effects our communities. It is an opportunity for domestic violence organizations to connect with the community through meaningful outreach and awareness raising events.
