Augusta Shuts Out Georgia College, 3-0

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars women's volleyball team didn't drop a set on Saturday afternoon to shut out the Georgia College Bobcats in Peach Belt Conference play in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Jaguars (6-3, 3-1 PBC) hosted the Augusta Volleyball Invitational on Sept 10 and had a preview of the Bobcats. The Jags watched Georgia College (7-3, 2-2 PBC) take on North Greenville and Southern Wesleyan, but had to wait until Saturday afternoon to go face-to-face on the net.

In the win, sophomore Savanna Gonzales led the team with 15 kills and 10 digs – recording a .438 hitting percentage. Freshman Sammie Baker had 30 assists and seven digs, while senior Jordan Bickett posted nine kills and seven digs.

Augusta went up 3-0 to start the match and cruised to a 13-5 lead that led to a GC timeout. Out of the break, the Jags remained on top and never seized the lead to win a 25-18 first set.

It was the Bobcats who jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second set and they prevailed to go up 18-6 at one point. Back-to-back blocks from Augusta cut their deficit within one at 17-16. Bickett brought the match to a tie on a kill to the right side and another block from freshman Jessica Hedrick and sophomore Blair Bolton gave the Jags their first lead of the set.

Augusta blocked six shots total to help overcome the second-set woes and will themselves to a 25-22 win. Leading 2-0 in the match, the Jags led the entire set and went on to win 25-16 to cap off the day.

The Jags out-blocked GC eight to two and had a .275 attack percentage to the Bobcats' .099. Miller Howard from GC led her team with 11 kills while Kayla Brockway had 26 assists.

Augusta plays Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C., on Tuesday, Sept. 27 for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
