USC Aiken Ends Augusta’s Winning Streak In 3-0 Match

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Hosting their first Peach Belt Conference match of the season, the Augusta University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to USC Aiken on Wednesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

In front of a roaring crowd in the midweek start, Augusta (5-3, 2-1 PBC) entered the night on a four-match win streak and ranked No. 2 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken (10-1, 3-0 PBC) sits No. 1 in the league.

Jaguar senior Jordan Bickett dug 10 shots with nine kills on the night, senior Catherine DeSilvester had 12 digs, and sophomore Blair Bolton six kills with three blocks. Freshman Sammie Baker's 22 assists led the team.

USCA's Julia Forster had 14 kills, Shawn Hotson 12, and Taylor Stratton 11.

The Jaguars rolled to an 8-3 advantage in set one that led to a USCA called timeout. Aiken tied the set 15-all and stole their first lead of the night at 17-16. The Pacers pushed it to a 25-20 victory.

Augusta hung around the early part of set two, but Aiken took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-16 win. In a must win third set for the Jaguars, the first two points went to the home team. Aiken went up 6-5, but steady offense from the Jags gave them a 17-16 lead on a Blair Bolton Kill.

Tied 20-20, DeSilvester recorded an ace to make it 21-20, but the Pacers prevailed to win 25-21 in the closest set of the night.

Augusta had a .150 hitting percentage to USCA's .288, but they had three more boclks (six) than Aiken.

The Jaguars host the Georgia College Bobcats for a PBC match this Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
