Augusta Drops Pair To Close Out Queens Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In day two of the Queens University of Charlotte Invitational the Augusta University women's volleyball team lost two non-conference matches to Catawba and Queens on Saturday at the Levine Center for Wellness and Recreation on the campus of Queens University of Charlotte.

In day one action, Augusta rallied from a 2-0 hole to take down Belmont Abbey 3-2 in the season opener. Matched up against the Catawba Indians to start day two, the Jags fell 3-1. Catawba took set one 25-23, but the Jags matched the same score and won the second.

Augusta sophomore duo Savanna Gonzales and Blair Bolton were present on the net as Bolton recorded a team-best 14 kills and Gonzales 12. Cat DeSilvester notched 20 digs to lead a cast of five Jags in double-digit dig figures. Freshman Sammie Baker recorded 16 digs and 44 assists, freshmen Kenya Stokes 12 with two aces, Savanna Roy 11 and senior Jordan Bickett 10.

Augusta wrapped up the tournament against host Queens with a 3-0 loss. Roy added 11 more kills to her total with 11 digs, while DeSilvester pitched in 19 digs and Beisner 10.

The Jaguars host the Augusta Volleyball Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Jags host Georgia College, North Greenville, and Southern Wesleyan for a one-day, four-match event in Christenberry Fieldhouse. Check out the tournament page here.
