The GRU Augusta women's volleyball team will make their first trip to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament in school history, after they earned the fourth seed in the upcoming NCAA Southeast Regional to be played on Thursday , November 20th, at 5:00 p.m. in the Cuddy Arena on the campus of Wingate University in Wingate, N.C.
The NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Committee announced 64 teams that will compete in the 2014 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship. GRU Augusta is one of eight teams making their first regional appearance in school history. The Jaguars (26-8) will face fifth-seed Anderson (25-8) on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
The rest of the matchups in the regional feature top-seeded Wingate (31-2) against eighth-seeded Erskine (21-8). No. 2 seeded Armstrong (28-2) against No. 7 seed Lenoir-Rhyne (22-9) and third-seeded USC Aiken (21-8) faces sixth-seeded Carson-Newman (26-6).
Eight eight-team regionals will be played at on-campus sites. Regional competition will be single-elimination, best three-of-five-set matches and will not include a third-place match. The winners of each of the eight regionals will advance to the finals Dec. 4-6 at Knights Hall in Louisville, Kentucky. Competition at the finals site will be single-elimination; best three-of-five-set matches.
In the regular season, the Jaguars fell to the AU Trojans in three-straight sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-21) on Sept. 27 in Anderson, S.C. Freshman Kali Boatwright had 13 kills and 14 digs, while the team hit .146 to .214. AU had 18 blocks to GRU's six in the loss.
