Katie Beresford Named PBC Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga.  – Jaguar volleyball junior middle-blocker Katie Beresford was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, for her performance in GRU Augusta's three victories last week over Georgia College, Converse and Belmont Abbey.

Katie Beresford averaged 3.17 kills per match in the Jaguars' three wins last week. She combined to hit .417 for all three matches and highlighted the week with a season-high .714 attack percentage in GRU's 24th win, a new program record on Nov. 5 against Georgia College.  Beresford ended the night with 10 kills and no errors on 14 attacks in the 3-0 win over Georgia College. 

In the two non-conference wins over Belmont Abbey and Converse on Saturday Nov. 8, Beresford totaled 28 kills and hit .320 over both matches. Beresford was equally impressive on defense, averaging 1.25 blocks per set with 15 total blocks in the three matches.  She had six in the win over Belmont Abbey, three of them solo, and three more solo blocks against Converse.  Beresford is currently second in the PBC in solo blocks, seventh in total blocks. 

GRU is having their greatest season in school history at 26-7 and 13-5 in the league, surpassing the old school mark of 23 wins set in the 1995 season. The Jags earned the third-seed and will host the number-six seed Lander Bearcats in the first round of the 2014 Peach Belt Conference tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
