AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta volleyball team earned the third-seed and will host the number-six seed Lander Bearcats in the first round of the 2014 Peach Belt Conference tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
In the other first-round Peach Belt games, No. 8 Francis Marion travels to No. 1 Armstrong; No. 7 Flagler goes to No. 2 USC Aiken and No. 4 Montevallo hosts No. 5 Columbus State. The semifinals and finals will be played on the home court of the highest remaining seed on Nov. 14-15.
Tickets will be sold for the PBC Championship tournament event in the box office at the main entrance of Christenberry Fieldhouse. Doors opens at 6:00 p.m. and tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors (65 and over), students, children (six and over), and those with a military ID. All students who attend a PBC school with a valid student ID are admitted free, but all other students are $3. Faculty and staff are subject to the same fee structure as the general public.
Now 26-7 overall on the season and 13-5 in league play, the Jaguars surpassed their old school mark of 23 wins set in the 1995 season. The 2014 squad has also set a record for best winning percentage in school history. Lander finished 21-9 and 9-9 in league play. GRU beat Lander in two different 3-2 matches this season.
