2014 Volleyball Reaches Most Wins Ever

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Jaguars (24-7, 13-5) swept the Georgia College Bobcats (7-20, 2-16) in three sets on senior night, (25-16, 25-15, 25-20) at Christenberry Fieldhouse in Augusta, Ga., Wednesday night. The win marks a franchise high in wins in a season for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars surpassed their previous win total of 23 that they recorded in the 1995 season when they went 23-13. The 2014 Jags also own the winningest season of all time, passing the previous mark of 22-12 in 2009.

The Jags cruised in set one, winning 25-16 thanks to a .320 attack percentage. Sadie Thurston had six straight points late in set one to close out the match for the Jags. Set two was more of the same for the Jaguars as GRU Augusta won with ease 25-16, to take a commanding 2-0 lead. The Jaguars were able to win a back and forth third set and ultimately the match, 3-0.

Junior Katie Beresford led the way for the Jags with 10 kills and a .714 attack percentage with three blocks. It is Beresford's season-high attack percentage. Senior Maggie Darling had seven kills and three blocks of her own while junior Kailla Baptiste had seven kills and half a block. The Jaguars had a season high 15 blocks as a team.

For Georgia College, Maggie Roper and Caroline Long each had six kills. Long has three assisted blocks. The Jaguars play a neutral match against Belmont Abbey in Spartanburg, S.C on Nov. 8 at 2:00 pm.
