Jags Reach Best Record Ever With Win Over FMU

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Jaguar volleyball team won for the 23rd time this Saturday on the road against Francis Marion in Florence S.C.  GRU (23-7, 12-5 PBC) defeated Francis Marion (9-16, 5-10 PBC) by a score of (22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18).

With the win, the Jaguars reached their season high for wins at 23, the last being in 1995 when they finished 23-13 as Augusta College. Their highest winning percentage ever came from the 22 wins in 2009 when the Jaguars finished 22-12 (.647).

The Francis Marion Patriots won set one 25-22 with a .342 attack percentage and had just two errors to the Jaguars' 10. GRU bounced back in set two, winning a close battle 25-23. Set three, the Jags took a strangle hold on the match winning 25-18.  The Jaguars were then able to finish off Francis Marion in set four 25-18, winning the match three games to one.

Senior Kristen Koch led the way for the Jaguars with 15 kills, two service aces, and an assisted block. Senior Maggie Darling had 10 kills and 22 digs while junior Kailla Baptiste had 10 kills of her own.

Caroline Boone led the Patriots with 17 kills, two blocks and one service ace. Alexzandra Reed had 11 kills and one block. Francis Marion finished the match with 11 blocks to the Jaguars four.

The Jags return home for their final Peach Belt matchup against Georgia College on Nov. 5 at 7:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse in Augusta, Ga. GRU will celebrate 2014 Senior Day prior to the matches' start.
